Government schools: Did you expect anything else?

Yahoo News reports on the New York Post story about an embarrassing misspelled traffic signal:

The word…

“…school” is now gone from the street outside a New York City school building.

Utility workers used heavy machinery to grind up the wrongly placed “H” and “C” in the “SHCOOL X-NG” sign on Tuesday.

The correction was made a day after the New York Post reported the spelling error.”

Law Enforcer Joining Wave of Defectors

The Raw Story reports this week on a story told by one active-duty member of law enforcement, but it affects many more:

Statistics from the FBI reveal that for every passing 19 seconds of 2010, a person was caged by a member of law enforcement for the crime of possessing a prohibited drug. In 2009, 1.6 million people were arrested in the U.S. for drugs.

New Orleans City Council passed an ordinance in October prohibiting “aggressive solicitation” by people who allegedly harass or intimidate French Quarter residents and tourists.
Near the end of the eight-page ordinance, a portion reads,
“It shall be prohibited for any person or group of persons to loiter or congregate on Bourbon Street for the purpose of disseminating any social, political or religious message between the hours of sunset and sunrise.”

Oakland Arrestees Tortured

The Daily Kos reported on the torture being endured by Occupy Oakland protesters who were caged during the mass-arrests this week.

Some of the jailed report on their experiences:

“Just got out of Santa Rita Jail last night the prisoners from the Oakland Commune were being denied medications (some had seizures) while the guards said they didnt care if they died. Some people were brutally beaten. The put tear gas in the vents of my cell twice. They were keeping people without restrooms forcing them to [defecate] themselves or puke all over and stay in the same area….”

In a scene reminiscent of a third-world dictatorship, “Women arrestees were forced to give urine samples in front of male officers, ostensibly for pregnancy testing.” This is also done to further humiliate the people in cages.
