An interesting bit of activism out of Manchester, New Hampshire today. A new mover who goes by BigMike had the best of intentions. He called the Manchester police department to announce that he would be showing up, and “holding,” in Victory Park.
His intention was simple; get arrested and then go to trial. Denied.
As FreeKeene.com reported…
…he walked around a Manchester park for a couple of hours asking people why marijuana is illegal, while holding a bud of it in his hands. No police showed themselves to enforce their statutes, so he proceeded to the police station and had a chat with the secretary, requesting an officer come talk to him about the issue, making it quite clear he was possessing the illicit plant material. After waiting in the lobby for over 30 minutes, he and the other activists decided to call it a day. No officers came over to talk to him, despite the fact that one was in visual range of him, as you can see in this low quality, raw video of the occasion.
He actually showed the marijuana to police department personnel while standing in the lobby. Is this a bombshell? Discuss the implications of this activism in the Coalition of Cannabis Consumers group or learn more about New Hampshire activism in the Free State Project group.

Ya but why arrest a guy for a little thing, when you know he is going to make a big stink about it.
I’m no lawyer but say that I (as a tan, Catholic-looking guy) were to be charged with marijuana possession in Manchester tomorrow. Would I have a case? Could I say, “Look. Here you are NOT arresting less tan, Protestant-looking guy…”
If one guy showed up at the Manchester police station with a bud of MJ, they’d think he was nuts, and they wouldn’t take him in.
If two guys showed up at the police station with buds of MJ, they’d think they were queer, and they wouldn’t take them in.
If three guys, just THREE guys showed up at the police station with buds of MJ, they’d think it was a movement and they wouldn’t take them in.
This could get very “Alice’s Restaurant.”
If a thousand people did this every day, there would be no marijuana laws in Manchester, NH.
Everybody’s been walking around for years with buds in their pockets and avoiding arrest, for the most part. Now that you can walk around with buds in your hand and avoid arrest, maybe the next step should be walking around with buds in a pipe in one hand and a lighter in the other hand.
People that don’t smoke may not realize how easy it is to walk around smoking pot (without alerting authorities) and not be arrested. I wouldn’t advise lighting up at the police station though unless you are at least 15 feet from the door – most public buildings have smoking bans these days.
Nice article thank you for sharing!
