This set of Powerpoint slides (hat tip: Chris Coyne) on counter-insurgency strategy in Afghanistan is a wonderful example of the technocratic hubris of central planning.
Of course, we should really be grateful for the impossibility of central planning. Competent planners would be able to violate our rights more effectively.

Nice illustration. What could possibly go wrong?
The legend is missing. Everywhere a straight black line is crossed by two short lines, “a miracle occurs.” lol
No, Jim. You’ve stumbled on the business plan…
1. Collect underpants.
2. Produce fiendishly complex graphic to illustrate the new book “Counter-Insurgency Doctrine” by General Rube Goldberg.
3. Profit!
Don’t forget to outlaw pregnancy. lol
I expect that PA Consulting Group – http://www.paconsulting.com/ – received a hefty fee for just this slide package creation alone. This group has really got itself (owners, employees, stockholders, etc.) convinced:
“We understand how to reset expectations, rebuild confidence and regain trust across the entire delivery chain, all the time placing the citizen firmly in the centre of everything we do. Above all, we understand that government is always about trust and integrity and we are committed to helping and inspiring government to achieve this through our understanding and our ability to deliver results. We are passionate about what we do and are proud of our reputation for safe delivery.” (A sample from http://www.paconsulting.com/industries/government-and-public-services/ )
Ah, this is simple child’s play! I’m amazed they didn’t include more components because serious things in the world should require greater complexity.
