Teaching is Not a Crime

The Institute for Justice has a great video on the absurdity of Virginia’s licensing requirements for those teaching “marketable skills.” This has created onerous barriers for yoga instructors, including a $2,500 fee and a whole lot of paperwork.

This might not be quite as harmful as some other forms of professional licensure, but it’s right up there in terms of pointlessness. What do these regulations achieve, other than protecting incumbent businesses from competition?
